Authenticity and false frescos

The fresco is a prized, unique and exclusive product.

It is an artwork with a thousand-year-old tradition that does not know and cannot know the methods of mass production. Today the market offers products passed off as frescoes but that cannot be defined as such: low cost products that do not follow traditional techniques, handcrafted style, creativity and originality.

There are primarily two types of false frescos which are widely available on the market: the “industrial print” and the “canvas painting”.

More specifically, the first case involves the producer using printers capable of printing onto a canvas treated with special materials that make it rough to resemble the effect of a wall and, consequently, a fresco. Needless to say, this is a completely industrial process and the final result is very similar to an ordinary poster. In the second case, the painting, although hand painted onto a canvas “soiled” with sand, plaster or other materials to effectively imitate the authentic frescos, simply simulates a visual effect and lacks all the qualities and characteristics of a fresco created according to the strappo method.

The work can be pleasant to look at, but surely cannot be called a fresco.

Both cases denote the attempt to reduce costs by offering false products.

In any case, without getting to the heart of questions regarding commercial and professional ethics, we believe it is important to highlight that our philosophy remains tied to authentic handcrafted values which we began using way back in 1963.

We deeply believe in this Italian-made product that is envied by the whole world and we will always remain convinced that we can only effectively succeed in combining economic value and personal gratification by respecting artistic tradition.
